Great Minds is a think-alike game for 3 to 20 players with one rule: don't be clever. Each round gives a simple prompt such as “Name a fruit”. Everyone secretly types the answer they think most of the group will give. Answers are grouped together, and the more people who said the same as you, the more you score.
It's very easy to learn, works with big groups, and the reveal — when twelve people say “apple” and one person says “dragon fruit” — is always a moment. It is part of FamGames Pro.
What you need
Three to twenty players with their own devices, or one phone passed around to answer in secret.
Rules: how a round works
- Read the prompt. Something simple, such as “Name a fruit” or “Something you find in a garden”.
- Answer secretly. Type the answer you think MOST of the group will type.
- Match the herd. Answers are grouped together. Small typos and plurals still count as a match.
- Score together. The more people in your group, the more you score. If everyone matches, it's a total mind meld.
Scoring
You score 10 points for every person in your group (groups of two or more). The single biggest group gets +50, and if everyone gives the same answer, everyone gets +100. Lone answers score 0.
Difficulty levels
- Easy: Very simple prompts, like “Name a fruit”.
- Normal: A mix of simple and trickier prompts.
- Hard: Open-ended prompts and less time to answer.
Tips and strategy
The obvious answer wins
Your first thought is usually everyone's first thought. Trust it.
Think about the room
Kids, grandparents and coworkers have very different “obvious” answers. Answer for the group, not for yourself.
Ride the streak
Matching the biggest group three times in a row earns a hot-streak bonus.
Variations and house rules
- Opposite day (house rule): for one round, try to be the only person with your answer — and award the points out loud.
- Family edition: write prompts only your family would understand (“Something Dad always loses”).
Who it's best for
Large groups, ice-breakers, mixed ages (younger kids do surprisingly well), and anyone who wants a game that rewards being normal.
