Liar's Dice is a classic bluffing game for 2 to 8 players. Everyone rolls their dice in secret. Players then take turns bidding on how many dice of a certain face are on the whole table — counting everyone's dice, not just their own. Each bid must be higher than the last, until someone thinks it has gone too far and calls “Liar!”.
FamGames handles the cups, the dice and the counting for you, so you can focus on reading faces. It is part of FamGames Pro.
What you need
Two to eight players with their own devices, or one phone passed around so each player can peek at their dice in private.
Rules: how a round works
- Roll in secret. Everyone shakes their cup. Only you can see your own dice.
- Bid on the whole table. Take turns bidding how many dice of one face are on the table in total. “Four 5s” means at least four dice showing 5 among everyone's dice.
- Raise or call. On your turn, raise the bid — more dice, or the same number of a higher face — or call “Liar!” if you think the current bid is too high.
- Ones are wild. On Easy and Normal, ones count as every face, which makes bids more likely to be true.
- Lose a die. Everyone reveals. If the bid was true, the caller loses a die; if it was a lie, the bidder loses one. Lose all your dice and you're out.
- Spot on!. Think the bid is exactly right? Call “Spot on”. If it's exact you win a die back; if not, you lose one.
Scoring
Winning a challenge earns +25, a correct “Spot on” earns +40, you get +10 each time another player is knocked out, and the last player with dice earns +100.
Difficulty levels
- Easy: Ones are wild, more time per turn, and a helper that shows the expected count.
- Normal: Ones are wild.
- Hard: No wild ones and less time per turn — pure bluffing.
Tips and strategy
Bid from your own hand
Your dice are the only facts you have. If you hold three 4s, bidding on 4s is much safer than bidding on 6s.
Know the rough odds
With ones wild, about one in three of the other players' dice will match any given face. With 15 dice you can't see, expect around five matches plus whatever you hold.
Bluff in small steps
Raising by one is less suspicious than jumping three. Save big jumps for when you're actually holding the dice.
Call late, not early
Early bids are usually true. Challenges pay off when the bid is well above the expected count.
Variations and house rules
- Practice on Easy: the expected-count helper is a great way to learn the probabilities before moving up.
- Hard mode: without wild ones, the numbers drop sharply and bluffing becomes the whole game.
Who it's best for
Teenagers and adults, players who like probability and poker faces, and smaller groups who want a game with real tension.
