Hot Seat is a get-to-know-you bluffing game for 3 to 10 players. Each round, one player is in the Hot Seat and a question about them appears — “What's their most-used emoji?” or “What did they want to be as a kid?”. They write the true answer. Everyone else writes what they think it is, or a convincing bluff. Then all the answers are shuffled and the group tries to spot the real one.
It's part trivia about the people you love, part bluffing game, and it tends to surface stories nobody had heard before. It is part of FamGames Pro.
What you need
Three to ten players who know each other at least a little, each with a device, or one phone passed around.
Rules: how a round works
- Someone takes the seat. One player is in the Hot Seat and a question about them appears.
- Everyone answers. The Hot Seat player writes the TRUE answer. Everyone else writes a guess or a believable bluff.
- Spot the real one. All answers are shuffled together. Everyone except the Hot Seat picks the one they think is real.
- Reveal. See who knew them best and whose bluffs fooled people. Then the seat moves on.
Scoring
Picking the real answer scores +2. Each player fooled by your bluff gives you +1. Writing the exact real answer earns a +3 “Mind reader” bonus. The Hot Seat player scores +1 for every correct guess.
Difficulty levels
- Easy: More time to write and to pick.
- Normal: Standard timers.
- Hard: Quick-fire: less time to bluff and to pick.
Tips and strategy
Believable beats funny
A joke answer is fun but rarely fools anyone. Write something the Hot Seat player plausibly could have said.
Match the style
If the Hot Seat player writes short answers in lowercase, write your bluff the same way.
Hot Seat: be honest
You score when people find your real answer, so don't try to hide it.
Variations and house rules
- Story time: after each reveal, the Hot Seat player tells the story behind their answer.
- Pairs: put two people who know each other well — siblings, partners — in the seat together.
